Johnny & Associates announces earthquake relief project, “Marching J”, feat. all talents

Johnny & Associates have announced the creation of an earthquake relief project called “Marching J“, which will feature the participation of all Johnny & Associates talents.

The project was named by president Johnny Kitagawa, and the “J” stands for both ‘Japan’ and ‘Johnny’s’. Mr. Kitagawa says, “I put the meaning of ‘Let’s walk together toward the recovery.”

Although Johnny & Associates housed a relief unit, “J-FRIENDS“, for 1995’s Great Hanshin Earthquake, it was only comprised of TOKIO, KinKi Kids, and V6. This time, however, “Marching J” will involve all the agency’s talents – it’ll mark the first in-house collaborative project since the company’s founding in 1962. Mr. Kitagawa explained, “It was that big of a disaster. We need to get together, and take actions to make our hearts as one.” He also revealed that there were many talents who were willing to do something for the disaster relief.

The first event for “Marching J” will be through a fundraiser, which will be hosted in front of the First Gymnasium at the Yoyogi National Stadium. The event will run from April 1st to the 3rd, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Including Johnny’s Jr. boys (and trainees), there will be over 100 talents participating the event under the slogan, “Use our energy without using electricity“. Talk segments will also be held at the event.

Mr. Kitagawa also stated that the project does not have a set time limit, nor will this be a one-time event. He said, “We will continue to do some kind of activity every month until the end.”

Johnny & Associates plan to hold concerts with low electricity usage

On March 19th, Johnny & Associates which canceled all concerts in March due to the Great Tohoku Kanto Earthquake, has revealed that they are planning to hold concerts utilizing low electricity, starting in April.

After the disaster, 18 stages (by 6 artists) were canceled, and Yamashita Tomohisa’s (NEWS) 2 stages in Taiwan had also been postponed. According to a representative of Johnny & Associates, “There are some requests that they wanted to hear JE boys’ voices. So, we hope to hold live concerts which could send cheerful message to the devastated areas, while we refrain from using large-scale stage effects.”

Although there is still a possibility that the concerts may not happen due to the energy supply circumstances, they are working on a plan to try to make it happen. Usually, their concerts have high electricity consumption (about 3000 kilowatts per stage) due to the splendid stage effects, however, with the new plan, it will be reduced to 1/10 of the normal electricity consumption.

At this moment, Yamashita Tomohisa’s concerts at Osaka-Jo Hall (4/1~4/3), and Tackey & Tsubasa’s concerts at Yokohama Arena (4/2, 4/3) will be held as planned.

Shige Is "Watchman" To His Korean Friends

In his latest "photoshigenic" Kato Shigeaki wrote about his recent trip to Korea and why his Korean friends started to call him "watchman".

Recently Shige and two friends went to Korea. Because his companions both already had friends there, he was introduced to many people.
Shige introduced himself by saying "Hi, I'm Shige" and in response a Korean told him that "shige" means "watch" in his language. So in the end everybody started to call him "watchman"; "Watchman, have some kimchi!", "Watchman aren't you cold?" etc.
But Shige actually liked it, since in his opinion it sounds like the name of a super hero.

Kato Shigeaki is a member of popular idol group NEWS alongside Yamashita Tomohisa, Nishikido Ryo, Yuya Tegoshi, Takahisa Masuda and Koyama Keiichiro.

Masuda Takahisa and Shigeaki Kato Talk - KINPACHI SENSEI REUNION (NewS color pallet)

(NOTE>>M=Massu, S=Shige)

Happy Read....>O< How's being in the set of Kinpachi after so many time?

M: Mmm...It really seems like a schoolmates' reunion. There are also the teachers.

S: Back then we were exactly like schoolmates too so now it feels just normal instead of a special event.

-How is it to work together again?

S: It's kinda embarrassing, yes, it is a little.

M: I guess it really is somehow.

S: Expecially when we were shooting the scenes in which there is our generation. Not only Massu, we all become adults. Even though we're all pro we were all saying that it was embarrassing.

-Meeting Takeda Tetsuya was like meeting again a teacher of your school time, right?

M: Right. But also in the CM we...Ah, I shouldn't say "we".

S: Excuse me (lol). I wasn't called for the CM .

M: Ok, "I" met him during the shooting for the CM.

S: I should appear more often than you in the drama .

M: Anyway I was happy to meet him again.

-Is there something that you particularly remember of the scene or script?

S: The graduation day and the last goodbye. The words of the teacher weren't on the script, it was all ad-lib. Not knowing what he was going to tell us it was really moving. Massu was crying since the rehearsals.

M: It taught me many things about human relationships. Also because of the work with many people of my same age.

S: Right. We were always scolded by the director though.

M: It was really a life experience. It was also my first serial drama. There were also long scenes of 20, 40 minutes. There were scenes in which I had lines for 20 minutes, I was scared because if I failed it would have been really embarrassing .

S: That's true.

M: I'm going back to that time.

S: Yeah, I remember that feeling of "I can't fail!"

-What is "Kinpachi" to you?

M: I was there! I really wanted to say this!

S: Ahahah (lol).

M: I want everybody to know that I was there too. The JE staff is always saying to Shige: "I've always watched Kinpachi Sensei but your generation was the best!", "Shige's Hase Ken role was really good", so many people say stuff like these, once I wanted to enter the conversation. So when I told what happened in some scenes they said "Oh Massu is so exhaustive!".

S: Uhuhuhuh .

M: So I went "Huh?". Basically that person didn't know that I was in the drama too

S: But the one who wasn't called for the CM is me .

M: Ah, we made it funny duh.

S: "duh"?

M: In the JE there were 60 people of our age who took the auditions for Kinpachi. When it was over Johnny-san said: "Ok, we decided. Toushin, Kato and...that one".

S: Ahahah

M: I wasn't there that time, there were only Toushin and Shige. I heard that everybody there were asking "Who did he mean!?".

S: He said: "That one, that one, that one...Masuda". Nobody thought he was talking about you.

M: Ah! Shige, look, this is funny! My boom were "Mails"

S: Ahahahah . Wah! My "dream for the future" was "Have a debut CD!". And that really happened 2 years later.

M: Cool! But Shige, here you said that you wanted to debut after the inspiration of the drama...

S: Maybe it was because Sooran (Danced in the 3B class) debuted at that time?

M: You're right.

S: Unbelievable . Massu's dream was to become a "Big star", that's cool.

M: Well, this dream is still a work in progress. Right now I'd write "Super Star" though.

-How close is this dream now?

M: Not even a lower-case "star". Nah, obviously I'm not a star, not yet.

S: Didn't you ever think? Maybe you're a "little star". Ahahahah
-Give us some highlights of the drama.

M: Shige will give some for us.

S: Eh, me? With so many things happening it's difficult to give highlights. I think that you can enjoy it even if you don't know if this guy was there too or if you don't know the previous series.

What if NEWS were in a school drama?

S: Massu would be the P.E. teacher.

M: An ero teacher? Joking, joking! A normal one! Shige would be a class library.

S: Am I a book?

M: Ok, a books committee member. Do you prefer science's ones or literature?

S: Both are ok

M: Do you wanna be the class leader? Ah, then the education committee people. This is kinda hard...

S: So, Koyama would be one, well...

M: Society studies' one?

S: Something like that...a practice teacher! That teacher with whom you're usually not used to. Tegoshi?

M: Couldn't he be a student?

S: I want to be mean with him!

M: Ahahah

S: I want him to be the bullyed kid. Because usually is the opposite. So, the boss of the brats would be Nishikido-kun, right? And Yamashita-kun the principal?

M: Uhuhuhuh, Yamashita-kun must be the principal!

S: Anyway, I really don't wanna go to this school

Johnny & Associates cancel concerts and provide free trucks & donates Diesel Fuel for disaster relief

On March 15th, entertainment agency Johnny & Associates announced that all planned domestic concerts by their artists in March have been canceled. Instead, the transport and power unit trucks normally used for these live performances will be lent to disaster-stricken areas in Japan, free of charge.

In total, 18 performances by 6 artists have been canceled. Performances cancelled this month are: TOKIO, Tackey & Tsubasa, Hey! Say! JUMP, Johnny’s Jr., Kansai Johnny’s Jr. with Yuma Nakayama, and Tomohisa Yamashita (NEWS). As well as this, Koichi Domoto’s stage show “Endless SHOCK” has cancelled shows for the rest of March.

At every concert, Johnny’s uses several 10-ton transport trucks and a few electric power unit trucks. The agency has a contract in place with truck companies for these, but since the concerts have been canceled, they announced, “If it can help with the disaster relief in stricken areas, we are prepared to lend them out for emergency transport and supplementing electricity … [For example,] transporting material aid, and providing electricity to hospitals…”

Food transport and power shortage are big problems at the affected areas, and Johnny’s says they will consider requests by local authority groups involved in the relief effort for the trucks.

In addition to Johnny & Associates donating the services of trucks to earthquake affected areas, it was just announched that J&E will now be donating 2000 liters of diesel fuel for disaster relief.

The fuel being donated this time had been purchased in advance for Yamashita Tomohisa’s Sapporo concerts on March 18th and 19th. Johnny’s has canceled all of their March performances, so the agency decided to put the newly-available fuel to good use.

The donation meets the dire need for gasoline and diesel fuel in stricken-areas, as many oil refineries had been destroyed in the disaster.

In addition, more details have been released regarding the vehicles the agency is lending out. A total of five 11-ton transport trucks and two 300-kilowatt generator vehicles, currently situated in Tokyo and Sapporo, are ready to be lent out, and drivers have also been secured. Johnny’s will work out further details once a request is made by affected areas.

MASSUDA TAKAHISA-myojo 2011.04 news sides

I'm thoroughly obsessed with the things I like but I'm pretty indifferent with the things I don't care about. I understand that maybe there's a gap too violent in my behaviour. For example, I love fashion so I notice the appereances of other people a lot. Like when somebody is wearing all stuff from a sports brand but everything is of a different brand (lol). Or if somebody is wearing sloppy clothes. I'm the same about books. I pile them perfectly because I can't stand a single volume to not look perfect. For example if I miss only two volumes of a manga. I love to buy books. Like fashion magazines, collection of photographs, information magazines...I buy around 5-6 volumes each month. I also receive some of them from the staff. I also buy pocket books, not only magazines. I never finish reading the books I buy though...Also recently I bought one but I read only 1/3 of it. This time I want to go to the next book only after reading throughly this one! People who like books are able to read a book in a month, right? Isn't that cool? My aim for this year is to become a Takahisa Masuda able to end books!!
I'm the type of person who is able to spend 3 full days at home having a 3-days holiday. Just from one year ago I started to love to have plans or to go shopping or to the movies during my day off though. I don't know why. I started thinking that I should try at least once everything even if I've got no interest about it. For example last year I went to fish with Shige and a guy from the staff. I had fun doing it and I'd love to go there again! I love to stay in the waterside in pools or sea, I'll have fun just staying there. It may be a little extreme but I'd like even also to just stay near fishing people. In the future I may marry a girl who likes to fish, she would fish and I'd stay near her reading books...this is the kind of day-off I wish for. But for that firstly I have to keep my objective of reading a book in a month (lol).

[gomen ne, minna. aku gak sempet translate ini ke bahasa indonesia TT.TT. selalu deh kalo baca scanan massu di majalah apa apa aja, pas ti ketawa. abis kata-katanya itu bikin ngakak banget :D. pertahankan kelucuanmu massu!!]

Tegoshi Yuya [HANDMADE]

minna.. genki?

Tegomasu on TV Pia NEWS Color Pallet 2 Mar 2011 - Translation

The colour of Tegomasu

Tegomasu's new single, their fifth and which will be released on 16 Feb (Thu), is a cover of male duo Sasuke's famous song, Aoi Bench. They talk to us about creating the song with their 'colour' and harmony, their school days, and flee~ting memories of graduation.

Covering Aoi Bench with a Tegomasu-like arrangement

---Coming after NEWS's activities, this release has been a long time coming.

Tegoshi: Being NEWS and Tegomasu is enjoyable in its own way. It's really great that I've been allowed to do both.

Masuda: I've been looking forward to it. It is nice to be once again able to use songs and words to leave something behind in people's hearts.

---And this is Tegomasu's first cover.

T: Our first!

M: An offer came, asking if we would like to cover the song. And we replied, yes, we want to!

---Any parts of the song or the arrangement that are unique to Tegomasu?

T: The music arrangement is different, and falsettos have been included so the singing style is completely different. I think it gives a very good feeling.

M: I think when each of us sang the new arrangement in turn, we had already injected Tegomasu's colour into the song. I had listened to the original when it was released, and I thought it would be good if I could sing the song while recalling what I felt then, while allowing our colour to seep into the song.

---The harmony's wonderful. During the recording process, did each of you listen deeply to each other's recording?

M: Yup. Other than the way we project our voices and the feelings conveyed, we also think about "how should I harmonise?". The actual can also turn out differently from what we thought it would be, so we try out different approaches and have fun at it too.

T: Yes, because Massu recorded first. When I am harmonising I try to blend, and when it's my solo I'll project myself. Just like with NEWS, I'll listen to the main melody, and blend my singing in based on the rhythm and the way the other person sang. We have probably done a lot of listening to each other's while we sing, and we consciously try to blend our voices, and this basically creates our harmony.

---The coupling song Sotsugyou Album has a simple music arrangement.

T: I like Sotsugyou Album a lot too! It's difficult to sing because the instruments used are so few, but that what makes it cool too!

M: It's wonderful! When I was listening to it, I was thinking I wanted all graduating students to sing this song.

---Which aspects of the song, like the lyrics etc, left an impression on you?

M: I really like the story of this song, which is about a person being reminded of his graduation from 10 years back as he reads his graduation album.

T: It's really forward-looking. When you're a student, you hardly think about the future, don't you? Because you're really enjoying your student days, that's why you don't think about the future. Especially in elementary, junior high and senior high school, you're having fun making friends and all, and I think the song portrays that youthful spirit.

---Anyway, do you remember what you wrote in your graduation album?

T: Eh-... what did I write? Probably, soccer player?

M: When I was in elementary school, I wanted to be a soccer player too. But when I was in my fifth year, I started thinking differently, so I definitely didn't write that in my graduation album (laugh).

---Any particular memories related to graduation or to the uniform button?

(T/N: Apparently in Japanese schools there is a tradition at graduation where girls approach the boys they like for the buttons on their uniforms as keepsakes. The second button on the gakuran is the most sought after as it is closest to the boy's heart. The number of girls asking a boy for his buttons is also said to be an indicator of the boy's popularity with the girls.)

T: No~ no one ever came to ask for my button~! (cries)

---Did you have school uniforms?

T: In junior high I had a gakuran-style uniform, and a blazer-style uniform in senior high. I had to go overseas for work after my senior high school graduation ceremony. It was like graduation and then 'bye bye' and there was nothing left.

M: I probably didn't give away my button? I couldn't attend my junior high graduation ceremony because of work, and I went home immediately after my senior high graduation ceremony. So even though probably everyone wanted my button, it was like (acts cool) "my button? that's a little... (acts to reject request)". But my uniform's blazer-style, so there're only 2 buttons on the jacket (laugh).

---If it was a gakuran there would have been a war for the buttons!

M: (embarrassed) No, no!

T: Oh yeah! There's no button on the blazer so the requests don't come!

M: There are 2 buttons.

T: But if you're talking about giving away buttons, doesn't that bring up the image of the gakuran?

M: Yeah, because of the button near the heart.

T: The so-called "second button".

M: With the blazer it becomes the button near the navel!

T: I wanted someone to say this to me (acts as a girl) "Senpai, is it ok if you let me have your button?"! I was waiting! (laugh)

Encouraging words of farewell from the duo, for everyone who's about to spread their wings towards the future

---Please leave a message for the students graduating this spring, and also for fans who'll be starting on a new phase in their lives.

T: I would like the students to enjoy their remaining school days. If there is a period in my life I'd like to return to, it would be my junior high and senior high school days. There's no chance of wearing school uniforms once out of school. For those starting on a new phase in their lives, they'll probably face many insecurities, but they can also enjoy the experience of having all these insecurities! I don't think failure is a bad thing, even if it happens you can take it as a learning experience and use that experience for the future, so I think it's better to challenge many things without fear.

M: Even now I am on good terms with friends I have made in school, from as far back as kindergarten and elementary school, and so I would like everyone to create good memories with their friends and to treasure those memories. Graduation is a step towards to the future, I'd like everyone to challenge a wide variety of things, and encounter many wonderful people and things. Congratulations on your graduation!

Related to the lyrics of Sotsugyou Album, what do you see when you look back at 10 years ago?

T: I was in the school soccer club, and I devoted myself to kicking a soccer ball around. I would wake up in the morning, put on my gakuran and take the train to school... Now that I think about it, I actually woke up at 6, 7 o'clock every morning then, that's quite amazing (laugh). Now I keep that kind of schedule only when I'm filming a drama. It was fun~, my youth! (grin)

M: I worked hard at club activities! I was in the basketball club, in my mind I had the image that girls would come into the sports hall and cheer the club members on, like (in a girly voice) "that senpai is cool♥", and I thought being in the basketball club = being popular with the girls. But from the time I joined the basketball club in my first year of junior high to the time I graduated... there was probably nothing! A pity~ (laugh). After club activities we would all buy tea or canned juice and walk home together, that was fun~.

What do you think you'll be like 10 years later?

T: 33 years old~. My personality definitely wouldn't have changed, but it'll be good if I had, through experience, become more mature by one or two levels. But I don't want to lose the youthful spirit, or rather the honesty that I have right now. Cosplay? Fufu (laugh). The fans would have aged 10 years too, so I'll still do it like I'm doing it now! (laugh)

M: 10 years later I'll be 34. I want to be cool! I want to have a physique like Higashiyama (Noriyuki)-san, so I should learn from his example and work out. My ideal is to become a disciplined and good adult.

What would you like the NEWS members to graduate from?
Kei-chan
T: Nothing~! He's got no weird habits.
M: Wouldn't it be interesting if we said 'his black hair'? But it seems he might say "My hair's ok, isn't it?".
T: Oh yeah, that part of him that is easily influenced.
M: Yes, there's that!

Shige-san
T: Uncle!
M: Ah~ the uncle part of him (laugh).
T: Now, he's probably about 45 years old. The image he gives people is too 'indoor', I think it's better if he goes exercising or outdoors.

Ryo-chan
T: Ryo-kun, hmm~.
M: Hmm, what could it be.
T: Probably oversleeping! (laugh)
M: Fufufu (laugh). Is that so?

Yamapi
M: He doesn't screw the cap back on! And he'll leave the cap somewhere (laugh).
T: Ahaha (laugh).

Massu
T: He should graduate from always leaving his hair down!
M: Today I'm doing it I'm doing it! (shows off his styled hair)
T: I think it's very nice! The red colour is pretty too.
M: (Looks proud) It looks good?
T: Yup, red suits you!

Tegoshi-kun
M: Tegoshi... the soccer club! Ah that's no good, not interesting (laugh). Skulls!
T: Hahaha! (laugh)

The Tegomasu interview features a spring-inspired photoshoot with them holding flowers. Tegoshi (Yuya)-kun said with interest "These are tulips!". In the shot with them giving flowers to each other, they ad-libbed with gentle words: "Here, please have it~!" In the shot with them facing each other, while Tegoshi-kun gazed intently at Masuda (Takahisa)-kun, Masuda-kun's free exercise exploded everywhere (laugh), pinching Tegoshi-kun's tulips, swinging his bouquet around like a bat etc.

TEGOSHI YUYA - Myojo 2011.04 news side

GANBARETSUGO, YUYA!!!]

ryo-duet 2011.04

RYO

-When did you feel the "Work switch" work recently?
Basically I have no switches. Before a concert I enter in the mood "I'm going to do my best!" inside myself but when I'm working and in my private life I always feel that "I am what I am". That's why when fans see me on the street I think they can see my usual character. I guess my mode would turn into "shyness" though (lol). That's why sometimes I can't answer properly when people tries to talk to me. It's not that I'm cold but I'm embarrassed! Ah, I have a story about my "Work switch" in OFF mode. During the New Year celebrations I had a long holiday and the first work of the new year was a shooting for a magazine. That day I was in a good mood thinking that the new year was beginning but the location of the shooting was outside and it was so cold. My tension went immediately out and all the energy I had went away

-How do you become when the "Play switch" is on?
I love to play around being noisy with my friends so I want to be completely in the mood for it. That's why I get so high. Anyway I'm the type who wants to be very satisfied both in private and work life. I think that you can't go on working a lot and never going out. Of course though you must be careful that this doesn't effect your work.

-In which moments do you go in a "Complete OFF mode"?
I'm an extreme guy so when I'm playing I'm doing it with all myself but I can also be in the mood to stay home, in those cases I can stay home also for a whole week. This mood comes regularly. It usually starts when I feel down for a failure and suddenly also going out to eat it's a bother. There are many times in which I don't feel like meeting anybody, sometimes I don't even eat and stay on the sofa all day. When I'm like that my friends always ask me if I caught a cold when they call me. Because not talking for a whole day the voice get hoarse

-What kind of girl makes your switch to go ON?
Girls who bring pocket tissues. When they give you one so casually, they can affect my mood. Instead the thing that makes me cold is a girl who has a weird way of holding the chopsticks and bad manners, no matter how cute she can be. When my mode is ON I go to the attack. I'm the attacker Nishikido!! I can call her everyday and ask her out everyday. If she refuses I'll say "Ok, I'll try again tomorrow!", I want to convey all my feelings to her. Since it's so natural my friends always understand when there's somebody I like. Because I become super kind and I don't go to meetings. I'll absolutely go to pick her and bring her back home. If I understand that it's a total no I quickly give up though. Because I'm afraid of being dumped .

-Something that you were really ON about lately?
Nothing...I'd like to obtain the licence as mantainer of boats but in reality I didn't even start...I have a little thing! Recently I went to do shopping with a friend and we said: "Who lose at Janken will pay everything". I was really nervous. In the end I won and my friend bought me some black colduroy pants and a hat!!

-Can you tell the difference between ON and OFF modes in the members?
The other members' private life is a mystery to me so I can't tell. Pi when at work is always ON. I can feel his professionality. But when we're out together he's an unbelievable idiot . It's a very definite gap.

tegoshi-demo 2011.04

TEGOSHI

-When did you feel the "Work switch" work recently?
I could feel the switch going ON while we Tegomass sing the new song "Aoi bench"! When we went to a music tv show we sang it in front of many other artists. It wasn't a match or anything but everybody was very serious about the song so I felt like I couldn't lose.

-How do you become when the "Play switch" is on?
Anywhere there are 23 years old boys (lol). When I go out with friends the spirits get naturally high. I have many friends older than me but they're all guys with a big playful spirit. To me they are the best friends ever, also when we get all high being stupid. That's why even if I'm tired I can feel good again going to play soccer with them. When I have a day-off I'm totally going to play soccer without saving energy and giving all myself to the chase of the ball.

-In which moments do you go in a "Complete OFF mode"?
When I have no plans to play soccer there are also days in which I don't see my friends. When I can be all alone I go in my Complete OFF mode. In those days I go to see movies or to eat dinner. Now I'm on diet so I like to go to Japanese restaurants to eat helthy food. Vegetables are good to health and you can eat a lot of them so I'm always satisfied.

-What kind of girl makes your switch to go ON?
The girls who make my switch ON are the ones who are always smily like they're having good time and who can put all themselves into something. Girls who have dreams and objectives have a charm with their sparkly expressions. If I see a girl who makes me think "I want her as girlfriend!" I can't stay still. I'm like this since the elementary school . I was always pushing, pushing and keep on pushing on the girls. I kept inviting her to play or to eat with me, it was so easy to tell my feelings. Instead my mode goes OFF with girls who can't read the atmosphere. When everybody's having fun and somebody ruins it saying "That's stupid!", these kind of cold girls are somehow... My mode goes OFF also with girls who are immediately very friendly and free. If I think it's no from the first time I don't enter in love mode anymore. The first impression is really important.

-Something that you were really ON about lately?
Maybe travels. I went to Okinawa for around a week in January. I spent some relaxing time in that warm place. I ate a lot of good things, like Tofu and my beloved Goya Chanpur. I also did Winkboard in open sea, it was funny! Next time I want to do a trip alone leaving with the train. The ideal place would be somewhere full of nature where I can relax! I love trips with "relax" theme.

-Can you tell the difference between ON and OFF modes in the members?
I can't! I think that members aren't the type to change a lot when they're excited. Yamashita-kun and Kei-chan are always the same, when they work or not. Shige is always calm, cool and collected . Ah, Ryo-chan when is playing guitar he's always in ON mode. He has the face of a kid with his favourite toy. Then, Massu is always very silent but during concerts he talks a lot. Eh? Wait! The one with the most violent gap between ON and OFF mode is me!? (lol) When I'm on stage my tension is very high so I'm invincible and I can say lots of stuff like "Let's love each other!". Watching the DVD I wonder if the other members are ashamed because I am a lot!

shige-duet 2011.04

SHIGE

-When did you feel the "Work switch" work recently?
No matter what kind of job it is, I switch during the make-up. Today too for the shootings I'm completely ON! To me it's also important drinking a strong French roast coffee. If I don't drink a coffee everyday I feel like I didn't wake up. Last year watching "Otonari" I bought a coffee mill, I can't go back until then. The goodness of grinded coffee...Using a dripper for each cup, using a kettle with a smaller mouth so that the coffee will be better. I also have an elettric kettle but my friend burnt it on the stove so now I'm using a normal one. It's inevitable, coffee from grinded beans is the b...eh? What was the question?

-How do you become when the "Play switch" is on?
Being busy with the preparations. Preparations are important for work too but when you want to do something on your own you have to prepare everything from the beginning. For example to go to fish. You have to go out in the first morning so you need to prepare everything from the night before. You have to choose the tools and prepare them with the oil. When I go out on a trip I have to buy tickets and book the place to stay at least one week before, then I choose the places I want to visit, I research about the food and the restaurants. Well, I could also go to eat in random shops though. Also the meetings before a travel are funny. This January I went to Korea with friends, I was shocked by the taste of Yakitori on the plane This became another good memory.

-In which moments do you go in a "Complete OFF mode"?
Never. Also in my days-off I always have some plans to do one thing or another, I always move. I wake up late, I go to watch movies or to train in gym, I go to eat dinner with friends. Once back at home I watch DVDs, then I do chores and the washings. I put some kitchen bleach to wash dishes and teapots so that tea stains will...geez. I'm talking about how to remove tea stains. My idol's components amount to zero (bitter smile). That's how much OFF I can go...

-What kind of girl makes your switch to go ON?
I guess girls who seems deep. A girl who can talk about things I don't know suddenly and without doing sarcasm. Then, somebody with my same hobbies, with a way of thinking similar to mine, if she also smiles a lot I'd invite her to meet again without doubts. I'd also like to hang out with a girl who speaks her mind, who's confortable with boys* and a little imp though . But maybe in reality it would be a little troublesome, right? Yeah, I better stop.

[*Otoko nareshiteru onna -> A girl who can talk confortably with guys, who can look at their faces while speaking, not afraid of phisical contact with people. Somebody used to hang out with male friends]

-Something that you were really ON about lately?
Since last here I said around that I'd like to gather vynil records so I received a lot of western music's ones by my friends. Also as a study of English when I've got some time I like to listen to them reading the lyrics and searching the meaning of them. I started with The Beatles and I finally understood why their songs are so famous. I guess I'm late. It's like the lyrics that before I only knew by ears following the melody now got closer to my heart...that's how much I like it.

-Can you tell the difference between ON and OFF modes in the members?
With Koyama is very easy to understand. He says whatever is in his mind. He's the leak guy . Tegoshi who always says sparkly idol-style things when he's ON, in OFF mode he's very manly and serious. He doesn't want to lose and he's straight towards anything. I think that Tegoshi is the member with the most violent gap between the OFF and ON mode. On the contrary Yamashita-kun is always the same. The silent cool boy.

massu-duet 2011.04

MASSU

-When did you feel the "Work switch" work recently?
I think it was when Tegomass released "Aoi Bench". I was really nervous! We never did covers before, I felt like there was a big hurdle in front of me. We had to keep the image of the original song and also to add the Tegomass touch. Isn't it frustrating when you can't overcome a problem? I wanted to express the beauty of the song to the fans of the original one and to the fans listening to it the first time with our version, we did our best to do it and it came out well! Usually anyway my work mode doesn't switch so suddenly. During lives or shooting dramas there are many preparations to do, make-up, clothes, the stage, etc, so I change little by little doing all them. During shootings for magazines the time is shorter so I think that it's there that you can see me at the most close to natural.

-How do you become when the "Play switch" is on?
I don't particularly change. When I went to climb Mt.Fuji the tension was high since the preparations. You know, last year I didn't make to the top, I'm still full of sense of revenge. I haven't planned it yet though...Somebody wants to reach the top of Fuji with me?

-In which moments do you go in a "Complete OFF mode"?
Mood! In the days in which I want to go completely OFF I just slack around reading fashion magazines and watching TV. Only in the evening I feel moved realizing that I spent the whole day in luxury. In my day-off I usually go to eat dinner with friends, I use to take a shower 2 hours before going out. Then I drink some milk or soy milk, I choose careful my clothes, then I go out, without any haste. It's nice to go to a meeting after a milk tea. I love to have some time on my own ♥

-What kind of girl makes your switch to go ON?
Girls who know about style, somebody who can say "I love clothes!" or "This look nice on you". Because this would mean that our tastes are similar. Isn't important to have matching hobbies? Moreover, I like girls with soft, kind character, if they're moderately calm I'd totally go after them. I'm the type who prefers to catch instead of be caught. Anyway even if she's close to my ideal if she talks in a rude way or has a weird way of talking I get cold. I'd be careful if she says "It doesn't fit you" maybe.

-Something that you were really ON about lately?
I've been buying lots of stick gums in the last half year. I've bought some once because I've heard that powder gum was a trend, so I thought that it was a lot of time that I didn't eat gums. That's how I found again the goodness of gums! The way they're all nicely packed one by one. How they have the shining paper under the colored one. Powder gums can't compete with it!. Stick gums are the best. Try it everybody!

[WHY?]

-Can you tell the difference between ON and OFF modes in the members?
Shige's the most easy to understand. When we're in the dressing room doing nothing and I try to talk to him "Nee, Shige..." I often find him sleeping leant on the table. If you search for him he's always sleeping (lol). The others are not like that so he catches a lot of attention. I'd never sleep for example. It's everybody's freedom to do whatever they want if they are able to switch to work mode at any time. That's why we leave him as he is .

koyama-duet 2011.04

KOYAMA

-When did you feel the "Work switch" work recently?
I guess going to locations for "News every.". The switch goes on every time I go to the place before the filming to greet the staff. Some days ago I went to film the big catch of Kanburis (a specie of fish) in Toyama, it was snowing a lot. I wanted to convey the big job everybody was doing there so much that I couldn't even notice the cold.

-How do you become when the "Play switch" is on?
I don't think I change that much. Well, when I'm with friends I can't talk lucidly as I do in "News every." . Recently I went to eat Nabe with a male friend and we started to talk about serious matters about the future. He told me "You now start to sound like one of your age" .

-In which moments do you go in a "Complete OFF mode"?
When I want to enjoy reading all by myself. Although I can't stay still too many time when I'm at home. Lately I go in my Complete OFF mode when I go to take a walk, then in a big library to choose books for around one hour and then when I go in a bar to read drinking an ice tea. That's my only way to get full relax. Reading books I can forget about the haste in which we are everyday, I like it because I feel that I'm using my time with grace. I talked about it in the last issue too, recently I'm hooked to Higashino Keigo's mystery books!

-What kind of girl makes your switch to go ON?
If the feelings match I naturally go in ON mode about a girl. Because when I meet somebody for the first time and I get excited talking to her I immediately get interested: "What kind of person is she? I'd like to talk to her again!". I'm also usually attracted by people at first sight. Because my Love Switch is ON~ And then I get quickly high, everybody who sees me can easily tell that . Isn't everybody like this too? When you're in love, unrequired or not, you're always in a good mood, right? You want to talk to her, see her also with other friends, you become really active. I think that also the girl can understand my approaches easily. My Love Switch goes OFF instead when I hear girls talking in a not girlish way. Something like "OO nanjane?" it's a very rude way to talk...

-Something that you were really ON about lately?
I started to be in a daze about moving my body again after many time. I don't get fat so I don't need a diet but when I've got time I want to try to build up my body. Lately I started to go to a gym. I want to endure it for a while so that I can train my muscles nicely. Last year I started training but I just stopped. "Continuation is strenght", I'll do my best!

-Can you tell the difference between ON and OFF modes in the members?
When Ryo-chan is in the ON mode he's really quick at moving! Yamapi is always so stoic and prefessional that when he's OFF he turns silly and you can see his playful character . Massu is always the same, just as the fans see him. During the meetings for the concert he's really ON and talks a lot. Tegoshi when is ON is "The Idol!" because he always can do everything that an idol should do perfectly. I respect him! Everybody is much cooler when they're ON but there's somebody who is wonderful in his OFF mode, Shige (lol). He has lots of hobbies and rules. Private Shige is really cool. Even though he's still ashamed to wink to the camera and blushes a lot.... Don't you want to see a more idol-like Shige?

yamapi-duet 2011.04

YAMAPI

-When did you feel the "Work switch" work recently?
My Work switch goes ON basically when I do a performance. The transformation is necessary, I can't do that as myself. Anyway the change is never too clear and definite, it switches by itself, I'm not conscious of it. Also the OFF mode works like this. Recently I never realize when I enter in the mode so probably it'll go on like this

-How do you become when the "Play switch" is on?
When I know that the next day I don't have work I usually think "Good! Today I can go out!" but how do I become? Basically I'm very normal. Very natural. I'm not able to change myself so I'm always flat...well, when I drink too much I become a little "YEEY!" . When I go to karaoke I sing western songs and get very excited. I sing a lot, for example Beatles' songs. I also usually sing NEWS and solo's songs because people request them.

-In which moments do you go in a "Complete OFF mode"?
My Complete OFF mode from life works only when I sleep. Maybe I go OFF also when I enter my own world staying alone to watch movies or listening to music.

-What kind of girl makes your switch to go ON?
I don't really know by myself (lol). The things that attract me are always a little different from time to time, I don't get too interested to girls who are only beautiful. I can't express it with words but I go ON when I can feel something, like "Ah!". Then I start to chase her with my eyes. I glare at her so much that I can look creepy (lol). Then I think that I should try to talk with her and I do my best. I can't tell when my switch turns ON for a girl but I can easily say when it goes OFF. With girls who don't know manners, who are mean or who lie. Not only to me, also when they're like that with other people, it makes me say "Eh? She's like this?". Thinking that that may be her real nature makes you turn cold, doesn't it?

-Something that you were really ON about lately?
The most of times I watch movies on DVD at home but recently I went to the cinema with a friend to see "Unstoppable". It was so powerful, thrilling, a really enjoyable action movie. Anyway usually I'm interested to life dramas movies. Or better, usually I'm not interested in other movies but those. I like movies focused on human relationships. "Ashita no Joe" is a big life drama movie, it talks about passion and stimulus, the obsession quite awful of not wanting to lose to somebody. That's why I'm ON about "Ashita no Joe"

-Can you tell the difference between ON and OFF modes in the members?
Tegoshi's ON is reflected on "Tegoshi's smile". When the cameraman says "Smile!" he's always ready to show a perfect immediate smile. Shige is quite the same too. Ryo-chan is pretty perfect too. They're amazing. I can't really do that. You never saw a good fake smile from me, right? (*He tries to smile stretching his face*) See? I'm doing this job since 15 years but I've never been able (lol). It's not because I'm unsociable, it's that I can't smile if there's nothing funny, I can't lie to my own feelings...During concerts or TV shows, when I'm having fun or I'm happy I smile a lot. I just can't fake smiles. I think that Tegoshi who can do it anytime is a genius. He's a real idol. Only him is able to say "I wub ewybody!". Tegoshi is a god!

Yuya Tegoshi Basically Wears Tracksuits/Pajamas In His Free Time

Yuya Tegoshi, member of popular groups NewS and Tegomass, stated that the clothes he's wearing the most are tracksuits or pajamas.

Fans of NewS or Tegomass maybe already know, that Tegoshi isn't very interested in fashion.
Now he revealed in 2011's 4th issue of "POTATO" that he's basically wearing tracksuits or his pajama in his days-off.
"When I go to drama shootings I just change my pajama to a tracksuit and a jacket. Once there I wear my costume and change back to my tracksuit once finished, at home I sometimes also go to sleep in it, that's no problem."
According to him, the only case where he changes into a proper outfit's on holidays when he goes out with friends.

Tegomass just released their new single "Aoi Bench", which reached #2 at the weekly Oricon charts.

yamapi's korea concert supergood superbad-ticket

The tickets for Yamashita Tomohisa's first South Korea concert were sold out within 4 minutes and also his album has hit record sales.

Recently Yamashita Tomohisa has already visited Korea to promote his solo album "SUPER BAD, SUPER GOOD", which was released there on March 2.

Now as soon as the tickets for his first Korea concert, held in Seoul on April 16th to 17th inside Hwagokdong KBS 88 Gymnasium, were on sale, they sold out in about 4 minutes.
Besides that Yamapi's concert officials mentioned that also his album has sold out earlier than expected.

POTATO-2011.04

MASSU - MONDAY

When I go out, like to meet a friend, I go out wearing my favourite clothes without thinking too much. Lately I've been wearing a big pair of denim, I like to wear a pretty tight down vest. If I go out with the friends who I meet more often I try to not wear always the same things. If somebody thinks about me that I'm fashionable I feel good (lol). I don't want people to think I'm shabby. If I'm going to meet people related to fashion I try to look like one who just went out with friends but who cares about his look. Like wearing an high-class shirt but saying "Oh, I just found it casually" (lol). When I know that I may get dirty I wear all things that I can wash. I can't wear a shirt, like a wool coat, that I can't wash at home if I go to eat Yakitori.

Usually I go to shopping alone, I always try to not wear the things as I saw them in the shop. I don't want a coordination that looks like the one of the brand. Wearing something that people can tell "He bought that there!" it's embarrassing (lol).
Recently I bought a short-sleeved shirt. It's dark red and it's kinda childish. It reminds me of a student uniform but when I tried it I thought it was fine. Sometimes I feel too old for some clothes too.
Lately I took down some cream sneakers I bought times ago. I left them in a box and I was neglecting them, when I realized it I wanted to wear them soon. I like aged items too.

The theme is about days of the week, my favourites are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The reason...Well, I chose them because they ring nice (lol). Mondays come after the holidays so you just want to slack around, you get aware of yourself only on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. When I was a kid of course I liked Saturdays.

Last Monday...
I was working. I had rehearsals with Tegomass. When I sing I feel hot so I was wearing a T-shirt
On holiday...
I sleep in a fashionable pajama! In reality it's a normal clothes that I don't use anymore and now use as pajama (lol).

RYO - TUESDAY

I don't like Tuesdays at all (lol). Basically I don't care about days but I like Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and not so much the other 4. I like those days because it's easier to meet my friends who work in companies on the week-end. Thursday is a plain day but the tension is high thinking: "If I overcome tomorrow (Friday) it's holiday!" and everybody hung out until late. I usually feel lonely so I always want to eat with somebody. Expecially Fridays and Saturdays are really funny! The reason why I hate Sundays is that I get angsty driving because of all the people on the street (lol). Recently on the first day of the three-day weekend I went to do snowboard, the traffic jam was awful! (èé)

Well, if I must find a good point in Tuesdays is that the beach is empty. But well, the beach is always empty on work days (lol). I can go to do surf since the morning, go to work in the afternoon and go to meet friends in the evening, this would be the perfect Tuesday.
When I go to surf I go with the car, on the beach I change into my wetsuit so I usually wear simple things. A sweatsuit, a t-shirt, a parka. Also when I go to do snowboard there's no need to be complicated. A remedy against the cold is to wear leggings under the sweatsuit. It's so nice to take them off once back home. It feels good to feel free again.

Basically I always try to be appropriate with clothes. Today I wear corduroy pants, a T-shirt, a parka and a denim jacket, a hat and sunglasses. I'm like that also when I go out with friends. I don't buy too many clothes because I don't wear too many things and my tastes don't change easily. I wear this jacket since I was 17 years old, it's the same for my beloved leather riders' jackets. I don't even use bags. I always stuff everything in my pockets. I went like that in Korea and in Hawaii I just brought a paper bag (lol). I have no interest in clothes or bags!

Last Tuesday...
It was my day-off so I went to play golf, I ate spaghetti and in the evening I went to eat out with P!
On holiday...
I go to do snowboard, surfing or gold, I go to eat with friends...Just like this. Sometimes when I have more than 2-3 days-off I organize a quick trip abroad with friends.

TEGOSHI - WEDNESDAY

Doing this work I'm not aware of week's days, it's difficult that I have Saturdays as day-off so I don't have favourite days. If I really have to say one, it'd be the days from Monday to Thrusday. In the plain days the city is not crownded, if I'm free or if I'm done with work early I feel like going to shopping. I purposely never go to shopping on Saturday, there are too many people. Lately I went to buy a wallet chain for a friend's birthday but I liked it and I ended up to buy a matching one for me too. Basically I'm not interested in fashion, I'm not picky. To me fashion must be confortable. When I go to the shootings for the drama I just change my pajama to a sweatsuit and a jacket (lol). Once there I immediately have to wear my costume and once finished I can put back on my sweatsuit, at home I can also go to sleep in it, no problems at all (lol). Today too my personal clothes are a tracksuit. I couldn't come in pajama so I put on a tracksuit (lol). Since I'm like this in my days-off I can wear a sweatsuit all day long.

The most fashionable members in NEWS are Kei-chan and Ryo-kun. Keii-chan's got a good style so anything he wears looks good on him, he's the type who can wear whatever he wants. Ryo-kun is more casual but for example on Xmas he wore sneakers with red and green on them, he was fashionable in a casual manner. Ah! I do have an obsession! I search for skull pattern dog clothes for Skull. I have no rules about myself but I've got one for him (lol).

I'm still doing my best for the drama "Dekawanko". We're doing it nicely but the concentrarion power of the staff and the actors is amazing, we always go out of time with our schedule. There's a really good atmosphere there. The drama is funny, even though I already saw that I always watch it on air too. I still don't know how it's going to end so I enjoy it just like the audience (lol).

Last Wednesday...
I woke up late and I went to the spa. After chiropractic I went to play soccer. It was a day-off from the shootings so I spent it in an active way.
On holiday...
When I'm off I do lot of sport. Then I go to the movies or out for dinner with friends. I'm not the type to stay home. In those cases I properly change my clothes so basically the days in which you can see my normal figure are holidays (lol).

SHIGE - THURSDAY

I always plan to be proper about fashion in my own way. Since the beginning I don't own unfashionable clothes (lol). I decide what to wear according to the place where I must go and who I'll meet. If I'm going out I must wear warm clothes, if I'm with smocker friends I wear clothes of a raw material easy to wash. If I'm going to dinner with somebody I met earlier I also try to change my clothes. When I go to fish I wear many warm inners and a waterproof outer. Anyway the person with whom I always go had to go back to Monsterland for a while so lately I'm not going to fish at all. It seems that lately they're trying to get girls be interested in fishing so a lot of fashionable fishing wears are coming out. I think that's good! I want something cool to be produced for men too. Anyway I already have a cool outer, it's a camouflage one, even if I use it to go to the sea. In the end it makes me stands out more.

When I go to see movies alone I usually wear denim with a t-shirt with a cardigan on. After that I put on a coat. It's all decided. Since I can't know the temperature of the cinema I wear a cordination easy to take off. I also wear boots because they have no strings and I can take them out easily. I don't want to disturb anybody if in the middle of the movie I take out my shoes, I want to watch the movie with the most relax possible.

Lately I bought a new coat and a rucksack. I bought them when I went in Korea some time ago. Last year I bought a bicycle so the rucksack is useful. The coat is black and long. Since in this season I wear a lot of long cardigans I wanted a long coat too. Buying those two things I'm enough satisfied for now.

My favourite day...now it's Wednesday! Because there are movies that costs only 1000 yen. Since a lot of time there's the Ladies reduction but recently some cinemas decided to give reduction to both sexes. Doing this work I don't care too much about days of the week and I can go to the cinema whenever I want but if I can go on Wednesday I feel lucky (lol). On the contrary I'm not good with holidays, the cinemas are too crowdy.

Last Wednesday...
The previous day I went to drink with friends so I went to the gym all worn-out (lol). After that I watched a DVD and then I went to a friend's birthday party.
On holiday...
I have many things to do! I do the chores and the washing watching a DVD. I also do jogging. I guess doing jogging is the most cool thing I do. I wear a camouflage running wear. At home I wear a t-shirt with a sweater. When I feel cold I also put on a parka.

YAMAPI - FRIDAY

I'm always appropriate with clothes. (*Doing a pose full of enthusiasm*) I don't like to choose them thinking "Oh well~!". I prefer to do like: "This with this and this...oh it can go!". Anyway I wear only the things I personally like. For the bottom I use quite only denim, they are confortable and they match with anything. In my private life basically I never wear tight pretty pants. Above I always wear T-shirts and if it's cold I put on a leather jacket. That's all so easy (lol). When I go out with friends I don't want to think to much on my style (lol). Just when I go to nice restaurants I put on a jacket. When I go to the sea in Summer since I use the car I go directly with the swimsuit pants. I bring a pair of denim in the car for later. I wear denim and T-shirt also to go to work. It's not that I hate being fashionable but I have a lots of denim. Even if they're similar they all differ in the color. Inside my mind I have my own criterion for matching them with the jackets. Only vaguely. When my criterions don't work I just change one of the pieces. Like, if the leather jacket isn't nice on some pair of jeans I just put on the coat. Ah right, this winter I also used some knitwear. The cashmere is so nice on the skin! The design is important but the material is too.

Lately I bought a riders' jacket. The design is kinda futuristic but it's really practical. So warm. I have many of them already but they are all single. This new one is double. Another thing about fashion...talking about colors, I like blue. Dark and light one. It's the same with red, I like definite colors.

My favourite day? I like Fridays. Because everybody enjoy them, since the next day is holiday everybody go "Yeeeeeeeeeeyy!!". Days like those are pretty dangerous though. Girls, go back home early! (lol). Right, the first day of "Ashita no Joe" was Friday too.

Last Friday...
After the meeting to present the movie I went to see the title match of Ioka Kazuto. I was moved as ever because now I know how hard it is!On holiday...
At home I wear T-shirt and short pants! Then I like to spend time watching movies on DVD. Recently I'm into human dramas. Other than that I watch comedies. My favourite is Jack Black's "School of rock". It's so funny!

KOYAMA - SATURDAY / SUNDAY

My favourite day is of course Wednesday, the day of "News every." (lol). Before it I spent my days without even noticing what day it was, now I'm aware of them. One day of the week became my axis and my movements on its vicinity are all scheduled, it's very good for my life. Sometimes I have to start preparing myself from the Tuesday because I think that the next day I want to say things properly, so on Wednesday I put my training in practice. Tuesday and Wednesday are my concentration days. In my days-off the first thing I do are the washings. After I put the clothes to dry I go to the bookstore, I wander inside the store for quite 1 hour and when I bought something I move to a bar to read. Once back home I watch TV and I go to sleep at a moderate time. Using free time in a slow way is luxury to me. There are also days in which I feel active and go to the gym. I think that gym fits me more but when I'm busy with work I prefer to just read. Sometimes slow days are necessary. My style in days-off compared to other days is more loose. If I don't go out I can stay all day in my sweaters pajamas. Fashion is one of my tools to change my mood so it's pretty important to me. With clothes you can change your mood, get excited and gain some self-confidence. That's why when I have to work or going out I choose clothes very carefully but in free time I don't care about it too much. When I work I never have rough appearances but during the butai it was an exception. Home > Butai location > The personal clothes lost their meaning because it was a home-like life so I wore a sweatsuit of a single color (lol). My tension got high the day when I bought a fashionable sweatsuit.

Lately I'm doing nothing but going on locations. Some days ago I went to a chinese street to film the celebrations of the lunar New Year held in Spring. I was surprised to see how much the zone changed. I ate a lot of good things and I've known many things about Chinese culture, it was funny.

Interview Nippon Project-2006.11.14

Date: 2006.11.14

Interviewer's Notes
To meet Yuuya Tegoshi and Takahisa Masuda in Tegomass during their first visit in Europe made us both nervous and exiting. They are, despite everything, big superstars who we’ve seen performing for enormous audiences and in Japanese TV-programs. Were they going to be sturdy? Spoiled? Or maybe just as cute and nice as they have presented themselves in the Japanese media?

When we entered the press room, we met the whole Johnny’s team; managers, makeup artists, stylists and producers. Everyone welcomed us with big smiles on their faces and visiting cards were exchanged in the typical Japanese way. In the middle of everything one of the idols jumped around the corner shouting: “Hej! Jag heter Takahisa Masuda” (“Hi! My name is Takahisa Masuda”) with a big smile on his face. We started to laugh and he did a gesture of victory and shouted: “Yoshi!” The duo’s other member entered the room with a stylist after him and we started the interview with wishing him in Japanese a happy belated birthday. His face lit up and everyone in the room started to clap their hands and laugh.

Despite my nervousness and slightly shaking hands everything felt fine. Tegoshi and Masuda were just like they are supposed to be - just as cute and wonderful in reality as on TV. Their personalities were like the Japanese idol magazines have described them. Most of the time when Masuda opened his mouth, everyone in the team started to laugh at his silliness. Tegoshi laughed a lot too but he was more serious and thoughtful when he answered our questions. Both of them were completely professional and it was obvious that interviews and photographing is a part of their daily life in Japan.

Interview:

How do you feel about your visit in Sweden?
Both: We looked forward to the visit!

Are you nervous?
Tegoshi: No, more expectant.
Masuda: Yes!

Shuuji to Akira with Seishun Amigo got released here in Sweden last spring and it also had Swedish songwriters. What is the biggest difference between Swedish and Japanese production?
(This question was forwarded to Shusui, one of the songwriters).
Answer: In Japan there is in most cases one person who manages the whole production, but here in Sweden the whole production was done in teamwork. That gave us opportunities to exchange ideas, which have been both stimulating and productive.

Is this your first visit in Europe?
Both: Yes

In which class did you fly?
Both: Economy

Do you still suffer from jet lag?
Both: No

What was your first impression of Sweden?
Answer: It’s very clean and beautiful. The scenery looks like one which could be found in a Japanese textbook in school.

What did you know about Sweden before you came here?
Answer: ABBA! And we saw some pictures, and a book about the Swedish language to learn some.

What do you think about the Swedish food?
Answer: We haven’t tried it yet, but we will tomorrow!

What do you think about Swedish girls?
Answer: We have heard that they are very beautiful, and we think so too.

What do you think the Japanese will think of the song? What do your Japanese fans think about the Sweden debut?
Answer: It hasn’t been released in Japan yet; we are going to make a Japanese version which is going to be released in December. We believe that it’s going to be well received and that our fans will continue to support us.

In the song Miso Soup there is a very traditional Swedish instrument called keyed fiddle (Nyckelharpa). How do you think it worked together with the Japanese sound?
Answer: The keyed fiddle has a very warm sound, and it was great to combine Swedish tradition with Japanese tradition in form of miso soup.

What was the last thing you did before you left Japan?
Tegoshi: I changed my cellphone to one that works outside Japan.
Masuda: I drank a sports drink.

Was it good?
Masuda: Yes, and since there was a little left in the bottle, I took it with me on the plane. When we arrived in Sweden the bottle was completely flat!

Isn’t it now with the harder rules prohibited to take fluids with you on the plane?
Masuda: Is it? I didn’t know that... Can we skim that last question? (laugh)

What did the others in Johnny’s say when you left for Sweden?
Answer: The other members in NewS sent us e-mails and wished us good luck. Some of them were a bit jealous.

What part of yourself are you most proud of?
Answer: That I got this chance to stand on stage and develop my musicality together with many talented artists and producers. We, who got this opportunity to perform our thoughts to a big audience, are very well favoured.

It seems like you have a lot to do. What is the longest time you’ve been awake in a row?
Tegoshi: I don’t know, maybe 30 hours?
Masuda: I haven’t thought about it. I try to sleep a little now and then…

Do you have any weird habits?
Masuda: Tegoshi sounds like this sometimes. (Imitates a pig’s sound)
Tegoshi: (Looks a little irritated) Masuda has a habit of repeating the same things over and over again when he has a lot to do.
(Masuda: It’s because I think that it’s very important that all of you get to know what I think)

Was it hard to sing in English?
Answer: It was hard. But in the same time very educational.

Can you speak English, or did you just practise to sing Miso soup?
Tegoshi: We have studied English in school, and also read a little extra by ourselves in the evenings. But both of us are quite bad at talking. We continue studying now, to get better and to have more international cooperation. My dream is to be able to discuss music with international musicians.

How do you see yourself in ten years from now?
Answer: I hope I will have developed as well on a professional as on a personal level.

Did you know that you have fans outside of Japan?
Masuda: When we were on tour with NewS in Asia, it hit me for the first time that there were many fans who weren’t Japanese. I still have a hard time understanding that people exist in a country like Sweden, which is 15 hours by plane away from Japan, who know who we are.

If you didn’t join Johnny’s, what do you think you would have done instead?
Tegoshi: I love music, so I would have tried to work with music anyway. I would have gathered my friends to start a band or something like that.
Masuda: I think I would be a normal student.

Do you have any idol, a person you look up to, within Johnny’s?
Tegoshi: There are many skilful musicians in Johnny’s, but it was mostly due to Takuya Kimura that I started to like Johnny’s.
Masuda: Shingo from SMAP!

What do you do on your spare time?
Masuda: Shopping, cinema, swimming.
Tegoshi: Shopping and football.

Is there anything you want to say to your Swedish fans?
Answer: We are grateful that we got this chance to come here and that people want to listen to our music even in Sweden. We hope we can give something
